TEC recently completed the reconstruction of traffic signals in Chelsea, MA at the intersections of Williams Street / Broadway and Williams Street / Chestnut Street, each key crossroads locations within Downtown.
Continued collaboration with the City of Chelsea has seen TEC lead the planning, design, and construction of several traffic signals within the City limits.
The TEC planning process focused on maintaining multi-modal access and flow at the locations where significant commuter traffic traverses to both egress the Tobin Bridge from Boston and access the McArdle Bridge (to Boston), each one intersection beyond the project limits. Beyond traffic signal work, TEC also redesigned and constructed the intersection accessible ramps, sidewalks, pavement markings, and signage.

The reconstruction of the two traffic signals has spurred other upgrades to the locations, more recently, under the MassDOT Bottleneck Grant program which has sought to provide corridor-wide coordination and transit signal priority along Williams Street between Spruce Street and Pearl Street: including the two original locations. TEC once again led the planning and design effort for the MassDOT grant in collaboration with the City. The more recent upgrades are scheduled for implementation in Fall 2023.
